De Engelse site van ZDNet verwacht op korte termijn een verdere prijsdaling van TFT LCD schermen. Dit omdat er een overschot aan voorraden zou zijn bij fabrikanten als Hyundai, Samsung en LG. Grote bedrijven zoals IBM, Compaq en Dell hadden daar eerder grote orders geplaatst, maar tegenvallende resultaten in de PC business hebben er toe geleid, dat deze bestellingen in omvang zijn teruggeschroefd. Om van het overschot aan voorraad af te komen, worden door de fabrikanten grote partijen LCD schermen tegen gereduceerde prijzen op de markt gegooid. Dat kan een prijsoorlog ontketenen, omdat ook andere fabrikanten niet achter kunnen blijven. Tenzij er een plotselinge gunstige ommekeer in de PC handel optreedt, kan dit ook lagere prijzen voor notebooks tot gevolg hebben, omdat de schermpjes tot de duurdere onderdelen van een notebook behoren:

Unless there is a sudden upturn in the PC market, that is likely to mean that the price of notebook PCs will also start falling, given that TFT screens are one of the most expensive components used in their manufacturer. CPU prices for notebook machines are already starting to fall, just like their desktop counterparts.
