De mensen van News.com melden ons dat nu ook Dell mensen gaat ontslaan. Op deze manier hoopt de PC-fabrikant de winst- en omzetcijfers op peil te houden. Opvallend is dat het bedrijf in februari ook al 1700 mensen op straat zette, maar toen zei dat verdere ontslagen niet nodig waren. Verder zullen de werknemers die niet ontslagen worden ook onbetaald verlof op moeten nemen, om nog meer kosten te besparen. Eerder kwamen Hewlett-Packard en Sun al met dit soort maatregelen:
Dell Computer will eliminate 3,000 to 4,000 jobs during the next two quarters as the company retrenches amid tough times.
The cuts, which the company said will primarily affect employees in Texas, were widely anticipated as PC sales have decimated the bottom lines of most computer manufacturers.
Dell has combated the slowdown by cutting prices--a strategy that has allowed the company to gain market share but forced the company to reduce costs.
Along with announcing layoffs, Dell said it will meet previous guidance of $8 billion in revenue and per-share earnings of 17 cents for its first fiscal quarter, which just ended.
