If you want the fastest CD-ROM drive on the planet, the Kenwood 72x CD-ROM is definitely the only choice. However, the way the product is marketed can be a bit misleading, as my tests have shown. Although quite speedy, the 72x does not perform like a 100x max drive as Kenwood states. It seems to me that this drive is about on par with a 72x max CD-ROM. By all means, this certainly isn't slow, but it's not as fast as Kenwood would have you believe.

The only disadvantage this drive carries with it is the price tag. Although readily available at prices of around $90 on the web, the Kenwood 72x drive is still about twice the price of a 50x CD-ROM. So if you purchase this CD-ROM, you're paying twice the price for less than twice the performance. But if you want the best, this drive is certainly that
