Na het testen van drie bètaversies van de 9.0-branch van PowerArchiver 2004 hebben de ontwikkelaars finalversie 9.0 uitgebracht. Het programma is vanaf deze server te downloaden. PowerArchiver 2004 kan verschillende compressiemethoden gebruiken om bestanden in en uit te pakken. Ondersteuning voor alle gangbare formaten is aanwezig, zoals onder andere ZIP-, CAB-, LHA-, TAR-, RAR-, ARJ-, GZ-, en BZIP2-bestanden. Tevens kan men encryptie toe passen aan de hand van Blowfish-, DES-, Triple DES- en AES-algoritmes en beschikt het programma over een interne viewer voor verschillende afbeeldingen. - 7-Zip support: create and extract 7z files. 7-Zip is a new archive format with an open architecture and very strong compression.
- ZIP AES Encryption Support: Create archives using PKZip 5.1 AES encryption standard and extract archives using both PKZip 5.1 and WinZip 9.0 AES encryption standards. 128-, 192- and 256-bit keys are supported.
- New TAR support: now supporting extended TAR specification.
- New Explorer View: considerably faster Explorer View when going through archives, with a completely changed method of browsing your hard drive that is now much like Windows Explorer and supports Explorer shell extensions.
- Compression Profiles: you can now create and use different compression profiles. This allows you to setup a compression profile and use it throughout PowerArchiver.
- UNICODE support for 7-Zip and RAR, and better support for both formats throughout PowerArchiver.
