Bij HardOCP is een review verschenen van de nieuwste heatsink van Alpha, de PAL8045. Deze heatsink kan het best omschreven worden als een kruising tussen de oude bekende Alpha PAL6035 en de Swiftech MC462A. Hij maakt evenals de Swiftech gebruik van de gaten in het moederbord voor de bevestiging en qua grote zijn ze ook ongeveer gelijk: 80x80mm. Verder heeft de Alpha PAL8045 de looks behouden van de PAL6035: een zwart geanodiseerde bovenkant met pinnetjes, een shroud voor de fan en een koperen inlay.
Presteren doet de koeler goed. Met een 80x80x30mm 68CFM Delta fan weet ie prima prestaties neer te zetten. Met een Thunderbird 1466 @ 1,89V weet hij dezelfde temperatuur neer te zetten als de Swiftech MC462A. Volgens Alpha gaat deze heatsink tussen de 50 en 60 dollar kosten waarmee hij een stuk aantrekkelijker geprijst is dan de Swiftech koeler:
No doubt Alpha has come out swinging as shown by the results we have gotten in our testing. Alpha is showing us the Alpha of a couple years ago when they threw down the first HSF gauntlet with their Slot 1 solutions that were so popular because of their tremendous performance.
I think it can be said that the Alpha and Swiftech were equal in performance in our testing, and if you are shopping for the best performing cooler out there with a high CFM fan, you might very well find yourself with all but these two crossed off the list. So what else is going to come into play here as we try to decide which one to buy? Can you say "pricing"? I thought you could. OCers know the value of a dollar and we damn sure know when we have enough change left over from a purchase to buy a six-pack...or better.
From what we are being told by Alpha, we might very likely see the Alpha PAL8045 retail from between US$50 to US$60 whereas the MC462A runs from about US$72 to over US$80 in cost. That is a pretty big difference in cost for the same exact performance. It is likely that you will see the Alpha be more expensive than mentioned here at first. Of course supply and demand come into play and whatever retailers gets his hooks into them first will certainly make a few extra dollars till the supply chain gets more stock built up. Capitalism at its finest!

Deze is zeker aantrekkelijker dan die swiftech want geld heb je nooit te veel. De heatsink is zelfs iets beter aangezien deze met minder airflow net zo goed koelt. Een nog grotere (stillere) fan erop modden kan vast wel en dan heb je gewoon een top koeler. Dat opent mogelijkheden met die nieuwe serie (die zo goed overklokken
