Software-update: AutoPatcher XP April 2005

Het opnieuw installeren van Windows is zowel met als zonder een dikke internet pijp een probleem. Zonder internetaansluiting is het lastig alle updates voor Windows te installeren, met een internetaansluiting is er altijd het risico dat er een virusbesmetting wordt opgelopen voordat alle update geïnstalleerd zijn. Bovendien is dit door de vele reboots die nodig zijn een vervelende en tijdrovende klus.

Voor Windows XP bestaat er een oplossing in de vorm van AutoPatcher XP. Afhankelijk van welke variant je download bevat dit pakket alle kritieke en aanbevolen downloads van Microsoft, aangevuld met diverse handige programma's en een lading registry tweaks die de snelheid, het uiterlijk, de functionaliteit en de beveiliging van Windows XP ten goede komen. De enige voorwaarde is dat Service Pack 2 al geïnstalleerd is.

AutoPatcher XP is verkrijgbaar is twee smaken, namelijk Full (131MB) en Lite (54,2MB). AutoPatcher is alleen geschikt voor de Engelse versie van Windows XP. Er zijn echter wel enkele vertalingen beschikbaar, deze zijn alleen niet helemaal up-to-date. Er bestaat een Nederlandse Lite-versie, echter de mirror waarop deze staat lijkt op dit moment down te zijn. Hieronder staat een overzicht van alle onderdelen uit AutoPatcher XP April 2005:

Things missing

• Hacked files
  Since I had to work on this release by myself, I decided not to include any hacked files. This means you will not find any uxtheme or tcpip fix. Of course, modules can be done for those later.
• Messenger Plus!
  After numerous posts regarding Microsoft's Anti-Spam finding spyware in the Messenger Plus! setup file, I decided it would be better to remove Messenger Plus! from AutoPatcher. Sorry.
